It was her idea to meet here, not mine. She said she wanted to see as much of the city as she could, one last time before leaving. Then I see her, pulling her travel case down 2nd Street, and I’m glad she picked this spot. Of course, I can’t believe she’s going. By taking the long way away from home, she was giving me a few extra moments to live in denial.
